Humans develop and maintain habits unconsciously. As humans, we form and maintain habits even without us knowing.

Habits are repetitive actions that become ingrained in us without conscious effort.

For example, eat. We put food in our mouths without thinking about it because we’ve always done so, not through the nose.

Habits shape humans.  Habits assist us in developing routines that keep our lives on track and organized. Imagine doing a variety of random things every day. Life will be chaotic in this manner.

Forming and maintaining good habits is more challenging than bad habits.

So, if you want to get the most out of life, you must be intentional about developing and maintaining good habits.

If you care about your personal development, you must make a conscious decision to form and maintain good habits.
Because good habits are not automatic.

They don’t simply grow on you. That is why I’ve written this article. To inform you of the best and only way to form and maintain positive habits that will benefit your personal development. Habits are the key factor distinguishing successful from unproductive individuals.

Successful individuals develop good habits that guide their routine, whereas unproductive individuals rely on chance and hope for improvement without their own efforts. Successful people have good habits that they derive their routine from, while unproductive people leave their lives to chance, thinking that someone somewhere somehow someday will make their lives better without their own effort.

Then they wait indefinitely until they lack the energy to form good habits.

What’s the best way to form good habits?

CONSISTENCY

That’s the answer.

CONSISTENCY.

The power of habits lies in their consistency. A habit cannot be formed or maintained without consistency and persistence. Consistency is the power of habits. You can never form or maintain a habit without being consistent and persistent.

The question now is, how can you be consistent? How do you achieve the consistency required to form and maintain a habit?

9 Strategies for Forming and Maintaining Habits

1. Decision-making

Good habits do not come naturally. You must make a decision to be consistent with the habit you want to develop.

Bad habits are easy to form and maintain, but good habits require you to make a decision.

2. Make a plan

After you’ve decided on the habit to form and maintain, make a plan on how to achieve it. How do you want to achieve it? It’s better to think and make a draft.  There’s power in the written word.

3. Write down your objectives

After creating a plan, make a list of actionable goals. These are practical steps you can take to achieve your goals. Ensure your goals are SMART. After making a plan, list out actionable goals. These are practical steps to take in achieving your plan. Ensure that your goals are SMART

S- simple.
M – measurable.
A- achievable.
R- Realistic.
T- Time-bound

4. Keep your goals visible

This one works particularly well for behavioral change and formation. It really works for me. When I post my written goals where I can see them, they serve as both reminders and negative reinforcement because seeing unfulfilled goals haunts me. 5. Discipline

Discipline entails living beyond your emotions. This means you don’t have to feel like it before doing it.

Make up your mind to be disciplined, to do what needs to be done regardless of how you feel.

6. Get an accountability partner

I do this whenever I need to make a behavioral change. I tell someone who can remind, motivate, and even correct me.
It works because I do not want to disappoint the person. I do this each time I need to make a behavioral change. I tell someone who can remind me, motivate me, and even rebuke me.

If you want to develop or maintain a good habit, find an accountability partner. Someone who keeps you on your toes. It could be a friend, a mentor, a manager, or a sibling. Anyone.

7. Establish a positive reinforcement strategy

When you reach your goals, make sure to reward yourself. You know exactly what you want. You know what motivates you. Give yourself a reward. Positive reinforcement influences the repetition of a desired behavior.

8. Ask for divine assistance

People believe that God only cares about church and spiritual matters. The truth is, God is concerned about every detail of our lives. He cares and is interested in the habit you want to develop and sustain. Pray for divine assistance. Then you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to do.  Simply ask God to help you.

9. Never give up

The truth is that developing and maintaining good habits requires time and effort. It requires some falling down and getting back up, as well as some rising and falling.
When you fall, do not stay down. There is no crime in falling; the crime is staying down. Truth is, forming and maintaining good habits takes time and effort. It requires some falling down and getting up, some rising and falling.

When you are unable to achieve your goals, pick yourself up and repeat the process.
To develop and maintain good habits, you must be resilient. So don’t give up. Whenever you’re unable to achieve your goals, pick yourself up again and repeat this process.
You need resilience to form and maintain good habits. So, never give up.
